Silly Bandz
As you probably know “Silly Bandz” are now in “style”. Don’t think I am some kind of dork because I put style in quotations it’s just I don’t think they are all that cool. I, naturally have decided to write a problem about them.
Miranda currently has 27 silly bandz. She wants to get 87 more. (She is crazy in my opinion.) Her mom is giving her 15 dollars to buy them. She can only buy them at Toys and Co. TAC is having a sale. buy two packs of 12 silly bandz for $3.99 and get the next one half off. They are also having a deal when if you buy 2 packs of 24 silly banz for $6.99 each you can get one 12 pack for free. Since tax is 7% percent for toy and such would Miranda be able to reach her goal? If not tell how much money she would have to get.The person with the most silly bandz in the her school has 171 bandz. How many more bandz would she have buy to get to that? What would be the total cost after that? Remember, tax is 7%. Good luck!
EOG Week
It’s EOG week! We, (my class), have had our first two tests already; reading and math calulator active. I am hoping to do well in math because I want to get into AIMM for Middle School. Here’s a problem about EOG’s.
There are 24 magnet Elementry schools in Gilford county. There are magnet 22 Middle schools in Gilford County.
The averege 4th or 5th grade class has 24 people in it. There are about 4 classes at each school for 4th or 5th grade.
3/8 of the Elementry schools have combined 2nd and 3rd grade classes. These classes have all have about 11 3rd graders and 11 2nd graders. There are about 5 of these classes at each school. All the other schools have about 20 3rd graders per class and have about 3 3rd grade classes.
Middle School is where it gets difficult. Let’s start easy. 5/11 of the schools have 239 people per grade. Then there are 16/44 that have about 104 per grade. 1 school is a center for advanced academics and only has 83 people per grade. 2/22 are schools with arts. They have about 278 kids per grade. The remaining school has only 52 people per grade. (I know, it’s sad.)
Each EOG book has 72 pages in it. This book is 11″ by 6″ by 1/2″. A special science test is given to each 5th grader and 8th grader. These books have 32 pages each and are 11″ by 6″ by1/4″. How much space would all the test books combined take up? How many pages would we save if we RECYCLED all these papers?
One last, very important thing. People only take EOG’s from3-8 grade.
One more thing. I am pretty sure I got most of the “facts” wrong compared to real life, so please don’t hold it aginst me.

If 4 tests are ripped per grade in each school so that those people have to get another test book, that is just the same,(this doesn’t include science), how much space would be wasted?

“Santa Claus”
So, most people know about Santa, or so they say. This is a math problem that makes me wonder just how “Santa” could go to every house in 12 hours or less.
There is about 370 kids in my school. 1/5 of them have been naughty. The rest have been alright. Togo from one house to the next it takes about 1 minute. (If you ride on a “magical” sleigh.) To get up and down the chimneys or through the door it takes Mr. Claus 20 seconds. It takes him 5 seconds to put the gifts where they go, then he must come back up the chimney. How long would it take this over sized magical man to do this trip for only the people at my school? Is it possible?
Triangles Wanted!
My lovely teacher Mrs. Buckmaster claims she will give $1000 dollars to anyone how can make a right equilateral triangle. She came in to class with her check book and everything. A Challenge (da-da-da-daaaa)
Sierra wants to know how much money you would have to pay to have a guarantee that you will win the North Carolina power ball lottery. For the lottery you have to guess 5 numbers out of 50 to go on a ticket. Then you have to choose 1 more number to be your power ball number. To win you have to get the first five numbers correct and then you have to get the power ball number correct. If you don’t then you don’t win. Each lottery ticket (the thing that you put your number on) cost $1. Think of all the possible lottery tickets and figure out what the cost would be.

Hint: for every first combination of numbers there is 50 different power ball numbers so that would already be $50.
If anyone maneges to do this I will be impressed.

Pies for Peoples
Meghan likes pies. She makes 13 pies every week for a year. Half of the pies she makes (by the end of the year) get eaten. Meghan keep 46 pies at the end of the year. She gives the remaining to the Greensboro Urban Ministry (GUM). GUM gives 75 pies back. How many pies does Meghan have now? How many pies does GUM have now?
P.S. This is the longest word problem I think I’ve ever written.
